Gallery of Glosses

Create and describe a Gloss phrase relevant to how it appears within texts. A Gloss may be repeated within the same text or across multiple texts but should only be created once. Avoid creating a new Gloss unless it does not already exist.

Provide Gloss Information

Gloss Text:

Enter the complete text of the gloss as it appears in the source.

Description:

If desired, add public information or comments on this gloss. The description should be brief and informative, providing context for the gloss text.

Language:

Select the primary language of the gloss text.

Canonical Reference Locator:

Enter a reference to the location in the source text being glossed, e.g. 'Matthew 5:1' or 'Sententiae, liber 2, dist. 17' or 'Decretum C.32 q.1 c.3'.

The "Canonical Reference Locator" is helpful for humans, but difficult for machines to interpret. For better searching and browsing, consider what major sections reasonably divide the document to which this Locator refers. For example, "Matthew 5:4" might be

Section: "5"
Subsection: "4"

Encoding for better searching

Document:

Specify the title of the document or source text being glossed.

Section:

Indicate the larger section or chapter of the text, e.g. 'liber 2' or 'C.32'.

Subsection(s):

Specify the subsection or verse of the text, e.g. 'dist. 17' or 'q.1 c.3'.

Label for display:

Enter the incipit or some other identifying label.

Edition:

If desired, enter information for the standard edition, along with page and line numbers, of the text being glossed or provide a digital identifier for a text section.

Target Text:

If applicable, specify the particular word or phrase (lemma) the gloss is commenting on, e.g. 's.v. potestas' or 'In principio'.

Notes:

Enter internal information about or notes for this gloss.

External Resource Link:

Provide something like URL, permalink, or DOI.

Before submitting you can check for existing Glosses that may already contain the text provided above.
